This center was established on June 26, 2015 by a few local Thai community members. As there were no Thai monks close by, it was their intention to establish a monastery both for monks to live, and for the community to practice meditation freely at no cost. After purchasing a 12.5 acre horse property for personal use on the outskirts of Redmond, they decided to establish a Thai temple there instead. A Vipassana Master, Ajahn Chalee Phumiphak, was invited to reside there, teach, and establish the monastery. Ajahn Sanan Grongthong was invited to be the abbot of the monastery. Within a short time, a philosophy for the center and its development into a monastery was decided upon, and the work began. The work continues today. Since its founding, there have been several weekend retreats led by various monks and lay teachers. Community members come and practice on their own, and can receive instruction on the Vipassana practice. As some teachers and students live remotely, regular weekend teaching and practice is now available on Zoom to carry out the founding principles of this center. Hundreds of trees have been planted to welcome the wildlife of the surrounding area, and the center is always open for the community to come and practice. The open land is a suitable place for deep spiritual practice. Over the years, various monks have come to practice, teach, live and help develop this center. Lay community members are always welcome to help as well. IIMC is now a properly dedicated Thai temple.
